Orient Green Plans 1 GW Renewable Capacity

Orient Green Power Company (OGPL) will expand its footprint in the renewable energy sector and has set out a target to reach an installed capacity of one GW. OGPL plans to develop a solar capacity of 39.6 MW through its subsidiary, Delta Renewable Energy. This project will be executed in two phases, each comprising 19.8 MW.

To support this expansion, the company is preparing to launch another rights issue to raise Rs 250 crore. This funding will primarily be directed to enter the solar power space, and to lower existing debt.

The company is open to exploring hybrid models combining wind and solar to further enhance its presence and reach the targeted installed capacity. As of 31 March, 2024, the installed capacity of OGPL stood at 402.3 MW of wind power plants across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and also Europe.

In alignment with its growth strategy, the company has initiated component upgrades on selected windmills, set for completion in the next financial year, which would fuel further power generation.
