Cairn Oil & Gas Implements ASP Injection in Oilfield in Rajasthan

Cairn Oil & Gas has implemented ASP flooding in the Mangala oilfield in Barmer, Rajasthan, marking the largest commercial injection implemented in any oil and gas field in the country. This milestone represents technology breakthroughs which help recovery from matured fields and ensure future field development, towards the goal of contributing 50 percent of India's oil and gas production.

Alkaline Surfactant Polymer (ASP) is a method where polymer and surfactants are injected into the matured fields to increase recovery. The commercial injection was carried out at the MWP-1 &19 ASP Project site in the Mangala oilfield. The efforts are expected to yield about 20 percent additional oil recovery in the targeted area.

Cairn's highest-producing Mangala Bhagyam Aishwariya (MBA) fields in Barmer has seen significant innovations driven by expert teams and global partners.

Earlier, Cairn had successfully conducted an ASP flood pilot, and a field development plan (FDP) was submitted and approved. This technology will be expanded to other fields in the block in Rajasthan.
